The Friend of Aine Kid’s Try-athlon is designed for kids aged 4-15, regardless of their athletic ability. The race course design and event timing are provided by our friends at Millennium Running, and our post-race family festival is run by volunteers, community collaborators, and sponsors. This community event now attracts over 300 racers, along with hundreds of spectators and volunteers. All event proceeds support bereavement services offered at the Friends of Aine Center for Grieving Children & Families. What Is The Kid’s Try-athlon?
Aine loved to play outside. In the wintertime she was crazy for sledding and in summer she turned into a fish (when she wasn’t riding her bike or running around with her friends). The Kid’s Try-athlon encompasses the 3 things Aine loved to do all summer: swim, bike, and run! Our Kid’s Try-athlon is a race for all kids ages 4 to 15, no matter their athletic ability. It is an opportunity for kids to experience a race without the pressures of worrying if they can make the distances or not – we’ve designed it so that everyone is triumphant!
- Ages 4 -10 swim 25 yards (no flotation devices allowed), bike 1 mile and run ½ mile
- Ages 11 -15 swim 50 yards (no flotation devices allowed), bike 2 miles and run 1 mile
We think of this event as a tribute to Aine, as a fundraiser AND as an opportunity to get kids moving. We like to believe that the race is kids helping themselves, while helping other kids.
After completing the race, all participants and families are invited to our post-event festivities! Children enjoy crafts, activities, and snacks to celebrate a job well done!
